About the Print:

Joyful flowers, whimsical declarations of the heart, and unapologetic hope — this is our love language! The amazing artwork used for this piece was hand-drawn in Pennsylvania in 1854, and was originally created as a backdrop for a perfume and botanical extract display. We reworked the images and added our own touches — including the heart-in-hand (the symbol for kindness and charity), and messages in historic fonts to complement the original hand-lettering. The result is a true original: romantic, bohemian, and beautiful.

In 1800’s and early 1900’s before the era of screens, advertisers needed their print ads and store displays to be as eye catching and visually captivating as possible to grab the viewer’s attention. Posters, magazine prints ads, and in-store backdrops during the Victorian period were often riotous, colourful, and packed with lush visuals. The more flourishes the better! We absolutely love working with these antique art pieces… they still manage to capture the imagination, even hundreds of years later.
